This is based on a story told to me by a great martial artist. I’m not going to mention his name as he is far too busy to cope with all the demands for one to one tuition that would no doubt arise. However, I’m sure that before to long it will find its way into the Fudebakudo syllabus

This weeks cartoon is a tribute to my wonderful father-in-law, Joe Dwan, a wonderful man and proper old school cartoonist (i.e. regularly published and paid!). If it wasn’t for his enthusiastic encouragement over the years Mikka would have never happened. I could not have been more welcomed into a family and he will be very much missed by all who knew him and his work.

This week’s cartoon is another inspired by Christoph’s ‘Murphy’s Law of Budo’. If you’ve not seen it yet please check it out. Once again thank you to Dave Whiteland,  grand master of Fudebakudo, for his 8th dan spell checking.

I wonder if there is any milage in a website based on learning stuff from other peoples dumb mistakes. Actually, I suspect this accounts for a large proportion of YouTube content.

I can’t believe that it’s taken 5 years to get around to doing a sumo cartoon. I love sumo, having been introduced to it by Channel 4 in my late teens. Around 1991 I was lucky enough to get tickets to take my father to see the basho in London, at the Albert Hall. One of the most entertaining evenings ever! My apologies for any errors in the representation of the dohyo-iri. It was more a matter of what I could draw than a striving for authenticity.

Thank you to Christoph and his web site Murphy’s Law of Budo, for this weeks idea. I should also add that ‘master’ is never a word used at our dojo – not in reference to any of us anyway.

I’m taking the opportunity of still being on holiday to post early this week. Just in case I need the weekend to frantically complete some work I’m unconsciously avoiding at the moment.

Sorry for the awful pun – it’s not as bad as the one I had to reject (just because I couldn’t work it into a mikka scenario). Happy new year to you all.

Phew. Finally the end of a very long half term and hopefully a chance to relax. A very happy Christmas to you all.

I think this might be my first 4 frame cartoon with no speech. I’ll have to go and check. It’s been a very busy week producing a proper advert with Steve Poxon. You can take a look here. I know the idea might sound crazy, but I’ve gone through the evidence and I teach this stuff! Anyway a weekend  of rest is in order before the last week of term, final exam prep for my poor students and the mikkabouzu Christmas special. And remember, if your still looking for the ultimate present for the trained killing machine in your life, they NEED fudebakudo.

A bit late this week sorry. I’ve been working on a proper job – paid and everything! So my cartooning head is well and truly done in. Luckily, all the necessary shopping has been done. Got to love the inter web!

As a teacher I come across quite a few students who have black belts before they’re sixteen and after only a short time training. They must be very good!

I’m sorry, but Bouzu is away this week. Probably on some worthless retreat with a bunch of fake monks learning how to channel his ki through a smartphone app. Anyway, it gives me a chance to try out an idea for another occasional mini series. I know these jokes have been popping up on forums for ages and if any of these are like ideas you’ve had, I hope that at least, the drawings do them justice.
